Volkskrant’s Investigation into Dutch Anti-Rights Lobbyist

A recent Volkskrant investigation by journalist Huib Modderkolk sheds light on the international activities of Dutch lobbyist Henk Jan van Schothorst, who plays a central role in the global ultra-conservative movement targeting LGBTIQ+ rights, gender equality, and sexual education.

The piece reveals how Van Schothorst influences legislation across Africa and Latin America—including his involvement in Uganda’s notorious anti-homosexuality law—and how his network connects to far-right actors, Russian influence operations, and fundamentalist groups.

Justice for Prosperity contributed insights to the article, with our director Jelle Postma describing Van Schothorst as “the most prominent Dutch voice in the international right-wing Christian movement.” We emphasized the dangers of his lobbying work, which spreads disinformation and manipulates democratic processes under the guise of defending ‘family values’.
