Evidence to Wall Street Journal Investigation on Russia and U.S. Religious Right in Uganda

Justice for Prosperity is proud to have supported a Wall Street Journal investigation into the global alliance between Russia, U.S. religious-right groups, and African politicians pushing harsh anti-LGBTQ laws.

Our contribution included helping the Wall Street Journal track down images of Sharon Slater, president of Family Watch International, at the World Congress of Families in Moscow in 2014. This visual evidence highlighted her long-standing ties to Russian-backed networks that promote “traditional values” campaigns worldwide.

The investigation shows how these alliances culminated in Uganda’s 2023 Anti-Homosexuality Act—one of the world’s strictest anti-LGBTQ laws—which has already endangered lives and inspired similar legislation in other African countries.
