De Groene Amsterdammer: Conservative Networks Exploit Rights to Weaken Europe from Within

A growing network of ultraconservative groups is using LGBTQ+ and women’s rights—such as abortion—to exert influence inside the European Union. Hungary’s Orbánism serves as a blueprint for radical-right strategies across Europe.

Research by Justice for Prosperity (JfP) and De Groene Amsterdammer (article in Dutch) shows how lobby organizations, religious groups, and international think tanks work strategically to undermine the European rule of law. Initiatives like Agenda Europe and Project 2025 link anti-gender and anti-abortion agendas to political campaigns in multiple EU member states.

Tactics include direct lobbying of MEPs, public campaigns framing rights as “family values,” and distributing provocative materials—like plastic foetuses—to influence politicians. Behind the façade of protecting life and tradition, these groups coordinate internationally, leveraging financial resources and networks in the U.S., Russia, and Europe to shift policies and public opinion.

The movement aims not only to block progressive legislation but to reshape Europe in line with ultraconservative ideals, using carefully orchestrated cultural and political strategies.
